About this collection
In July of 2006, a collection of fifteen leaves from medieval illuminated manuscripts and early printed books was discovered in Special Collections at the Central Washington University Library. Very little information exists as to how the library obtained these leaves, though they are believed to have been purchased mostly in the 1950s. Four of the leaves can be traced with certainty to the Cleveland bookdealer Otto Ege, who issued portfolios, or "leaf books" of medieval manuscript leaves and early printed books to illustrate the development of the art of the book throughout history. However, it is believed that most, if not all, of the leaves are ultimately traceable back to Ege.
