    <title><![CDATA[Washington National Bank.Ellensburg Public Library Local History Collection Photographs]]></title>
    <summary><![CDATA[The large, two story Washington National Bank building located on the southeast corner of Fifth and Pearl Streets was constructed during the fall and winter of 1889.  Edward P. Cadwell had the stone covered brick bank building built as the Ellensburgh National Bank.  J. C. Hubbell sold the bank to C. S. Darrow in 1899 for $12,000.  During the mid 1930s, the bank was stripped of the ornate stone facade and modernized with an Art Deco styling.Photographic enlargement of a picture postcard titled Washington National Bank, Ellensburg, Wash.]]></summary>

    <title><![CDATA[Webster Hotel Fire.Ellensburg Public Library Local History Collection Photographs]]></title>
    <summary><![CDATA[Built in 1909 for the Ellensburg Brewing and Malting Co., the original two story brick building was valued at $16,000.  Located on the southwest corner of Third and Pearl Streets, it opened in November 1909 as the Majestic Hotel.  The structure was renamed the St. Regis in 1913 when it was purchased by Fred Groger who added a third floor to the hotel.  In 1937 William Webster purchased the hotel which was renamed the Webster Hotel.  The fire started on January 30, 1980 in a ground floor room which quickly spread through the entire hotel.  Fighting the fire during below zero winter weather, firefighters soon encased the old hotel in ice.  By the spring of 1980, the ruins of the completely destroyed building had to be removed.]]></summary>

The structure, built of brick for hotel purposes, cost an estimated $16,000 to complete. It was to be 60&amp;apos; x 85&amp;apos; and two stories high with an opportunity to add a third story if desired. Opening in November 1909, the new building was called the Majestic Hotel. Ownership of the hotel changed twice until 1913 when Frank Groger of Seattle purchased the building. He then completely remodeled the structure, interior and exterior, including the addition of the third story. The remodeled building was called the St. Regis Hotel. In July 1937, William Webster purchased the hotel for $20,000 and renamed it Webster Hotel. During the early morning hours of February 1, 1980, the old hotel was completely destroyed by fire.]]></summary>

People struggled to cross the streets, keep the walks cleared or navigate horse and buggy through the mounds of snow.  Looking north on Pearl Street at the intersection of Pearl Street and Fourth Avenue, the very northeastern corner of the Geddis Building is in view, next was  the large Cadwell-Olympic Building which housed the Elwood Drug Store. Continuing up Pearl Street behind  the three-globed street lamp can be seen the Lynch Building which was one of the very few buildings not destroyed by the July 1889 fire.  Next to the Lynch Building across Fifth Avenue is the Farmer&amp;apos;s Bank built in 1911 and on the far right the old Horton Hotel later known as the Antlers Hotel.]]></summary>

    <title><![CDATA[West View Eighth Street.Ellensburg Public Library Local History Collection Photographs]]></title>
    <summary><![CDATA[Taken from the newly constructed Barge Hall tower on the Washington State Normal School campus, the photograph provides a panoramic view looking down Eighth Street.  Many large, comfortable homes that  lined Eighth Street at the end of the 19th century were the homes of well established families.  The small house on the south side of the street on left was the Charles P. Schnebly home.  The large white house in the distance was the home of Judge John B. Davidson and his family.  In 1934, this house to move to the corner of Sixth and Sprague.  Judge Ralph Kauffman resided in the third house on the right.  The Northern Pacific Railroad train can be seen in the background.]]></summary>

                                    <div class="element-text">Taken from the newly constructed Barge Hall tower on the Washington State Normal School campus, the photograph provides a panoramic view looking down Eighth Street.  Many large, comfortable homes that  lined Eighth Street at the end of the 19th century were the homes of well established families.  The small house on the south side of the street on left was the Charles P. Schnebly home.  The large white house in the distance was the home of Judge John B. Davidson and his family.  In 1934, this house to move to the corner of Sixth and Sprague.  Judge Ralph Kauffman resided in the third house on the right.  The Northern Pacific Railroad train can be seen in the background.</div>

    <summary><![CDATA[From a second floor window of the Washington National Bank, formerly the Ben Snipes Bank, this photograph was taken looking west down Fourth Avenue at the intersection of Fourth and Pearl Street.  The large Cadwell-Olympic Building housed the Elwood Drug Store.  At the west end of the block were the O. B. Castle and Rehmke Buildings.  Many local farmers and rancher ventured into town to purchase supplies and catch-up on area news on a wintery Saturday in 1901.  Most of the men and boys rode in wagons with attached runners which made easy pulling for a team of horses.Photograph titled in handwritten ink &quot;St. Scene in Winter  Ellensburg  Wash.  1901.&quot;]]></summary>

    <title><![CDATA[Y.M.C.A. Building.Ellensburg Public Library Local History Collection Photographs]]></title>
    <summary><![CDATA[Located on the northwest corner of Water Street and Fourth Avenue, the Young Men&amp;apos;s Christian Association building was built in 1911.  Over $50,000 was raised by members of the community for construction of the new building.  The site was donated by Mr. and Mrs. Sam Pearson.  The Catholic Church purchased the building in 1966 and used it as the church until 1977.  The Fraternal Order of Eagles No. 2220 purchased the old Y.M.C.A. building from the Catholic Church in 1980 for their lodge meeting place and headquarters.Postcard titled &quot;The New Y.M.C.A.
