    <title><![CDATA[Elks&amp;apos; Lodge Building.Ellensburg Public Library Local History Collection Photographs]]></title>
    <summary><![CDATA[The B.P.O.E Building, known as the Elks&amp;apos; Temple, on the northeast corner of Fifth and Main Streets was built in 1923 by the local Elks chapter for $56,000.  The Ellensburg Elks Lodge building commitee consisted of Hubbell, Morrison, Palmer, Sorenson, Anderson and Turner.  McWilliams &amp;amp; Ross of Yakima, Washington were the general contractors.  The marble cornerstone, donated by the Puget Sound Marble Company was laid in place in June 1923.  The building was dedicated in March 1923.Photo postcard titled: &quot;Elks Bldg, Ellensburg-WN.     <title><![CDATA[Ellensburg Carnegie Public Library I.Ellensburg Public Library Local History Collection Photographs]]></title>
    <summary><![CDATA[Katherine Murray sold the lots on North Ruby Street to the City of Ellensburg for $1.00 in 1907.  Her stipulation was that there must always be a public library at this location or the property would revert to her heirs.  After obtaining a $10,000 rant from the Andrew Carnegie Foundation for construction of a library, the Ellensburg Carnegie Public Library was completed in late 1909.  The library located at 209 N. Ruby Street was opened on January 20, 1910 with Mrs. John B. Davidson as the first librarian.  The large building on the right was the Lloyd&amp;apos;s Opera House on the corner of Pine and Third.  The Wipple family&amp;apos;s Large home on left sat next to the library until the early 1980s.  The young woman in the photograph was Clara.Postcard titled: &quot;No. 13 Library, Washington.&quot;  Handwritten note in ink dated Sept. 19, 1913 Seattle, Wash. From 1888 until 1930 the property had been occupied by a two story brick building built by Edward P. Cadwell and later owned by the Ellensburgh National Bank.  The National Bank of Ellensburg was formally opened in November 1930.  Seven years later, in 1937, the defunct bank&amp;apos;s building was sold to the city of Ellensburg at a public auction for $10,000. The United States Treasury Department awarded the construction contract to Thomas E. Young of Seattle for $53,916. James A Wetmore was the acting supervisory architect.  The building, located on the southwest corner of Fourth and Ruby Streets, was built about 60 x 74 feet, one story high, built of brick and trimmed with limestone.  After many months of construction problems, the post office was completed in late winter of 1917.  In the spring of 1917, Postmaster Robert A. Turner moved into the new quarters.  During the 1950s, in addition to the post office, the U. S. Department of Agriculture Farmer&amp;apos;s Home Administration was located in the building.  In the spring of 1963, the post office was moved and the Ellensburg School District used the building for administrative offices.Postcard titled &quot;Post Office Ellensburg, Was. The cost of the new high school building was $60,000.  3500,000 bricks were used for the school building.  Zetzsche and Zetzsche Co. contracted for all the painting and tinting.  Link Mumma was landscape designer and grounds keeper.  Ellensburg&amp;apos;s first high school building was opened September 9, 1912.Postcard titled: &quot;New High School, Ellensburg, Wash.&quot;]]></summary>

The building housed grades 9-12 and was the first our year high school building in Ellensburg.  The building was last used as a high school during the 1955-1956 school year.  For a few years the building remained empty except for use by staff and students of Morgan Jr. High which was located directly to the east of the high school. The building housed grades 9-12 and was the first our year high school building in Ellensburg.  The building was last used as a high school during the 1955-1956 school year.  For a few years the building remained empty except for use by staff and students of Morgan Jr. High which was located directly to the east of the high school.     <summary><![CDATA[In 1913 the Ellensburg Water Company was changed to an irrigation district and many of the wooden canals and ditches were replaced with steel flumes.  At this time the irrigation district entered into a contract with the United States government for water supplies to be stored.  The cement pumping station located about 6 miles west of Ellensburg was used to pump and regulate water flow.  Fred M.     <title><![CDATA[Ellensburg&amp;apos;s New Public Library.Ellensburg Public Library Local History Collection Photographs]]></title>
    <summary><![CDATA[In 1967 the old Carnegie library building was demolished and to replace  it the new Ellensburg Public Library was built.  The new building was opened June 30, 1968, with Patricia Dalglish as head librarian.  When the library opened it housed 30,000 volumes.                                     <div class="element-text">In 1967 the old Carnegie library building was demolished and to replace  it the new Ellensburg Public Library was built.  The new building was opened June 30, 1968, with Patricia Dalglish as head librarian.  When the library opened it housed 30,000 volumes.
