    <title><![CDATA[Ellensburgh City Hall.Ellensburg Public Library Local History Collection Photographs]]></title>
    <summary><![CDATA[After the July 4th 1889 fire, the city of Ellensburg planned to build a large, impressive City Hall.  This city hall illustrated in the West Shore magazine was never built.  Ellensburg, recovering from the fire that destroyed most of the downtown business district, did not have the capital to finance a large city hall.  A much smaller, two story brick structure was built on Pine Street between Third and Fourth Streets.A supplement to West Shore (magazine) commissioned by Leonhard &amp;amp; Ross of Ellensburgh, Washington.  A 24 1/2&quot; x 34 1/2&quot; poster of the Ellensburgh building built or being built after the July 4th 1889 fire.  Twenty-six buildings or blocks illustrated.  Reverse side contained two full pages of information about Ellensburg and the Kittitas Valley.  F. Leonhard and P. H. W. Ross Real Estate advertisement.]]></summary>

    <summary><![CDATA[Looking south down Pearl Street across the intersection of Fourth and Pearl Streets many mid 1940s Ellensburg businesses can be seen.  On the left in the Davidson Building was located the Elton Hotel, formerly the Albany and Savoy Hotels, managed  by Ardell R.  Dryden (1897-1964.)   The large stone Washington National Bank, originally the Ben Snipes Bank, was built in 1889.  The ornate façade of the Kreidel Building in the background on the left had been removed along with the stately and familiar tower.  Housed in the Cadwell-Olympic Building on the right was Ostrander&amp;apos;s Drugs.  Pearl Street was Ellensburg&amp;apos;s major commercial street.Postcard titled,  &quot;Street Scene - Ellensburg-Wn.&quot;  No.6901.]]></summary>

    <title><![CDATA[Farmers Bank Building.Ellensburg Public Library Local History Collection Photographs]]></title>
    <summary><![CDATA[The Farmers Bank Building on the northwest corner of 5th Avenue and Pearl Street was completed in 1911. The foundation was put in during the fall of 1910, and actual construction was begun the following spring. Brick and timber were on the ground in March, 1911, and by April, a large derrick was in position to swing the great blocks of Tenino stone into place. The artistic carving of lions&amp;apos; heads on the bank attracted much attention. The bank building was designed by architect Fay R. Spangler. During the bank&amp;apos;s long history many local and state banks and offices have occupied the building.]]></summary>

The large brick and timber structure was begun the fall of 1910 and by mid June 1911 the attractive stone work was completed.  The artistic carvings of lions&amp;apos; heads on the bank building is one of the characteristic features.     <summary><![CDATA[Looking south down Sprague Street at the intersection of Fourth Avenue, the original First Baptist Church on left can be seen.  After Rev. C. W. Reese helped establish a Baptist Church in Ellensburg in 1887, the First Baptist Church building was erected in 1888-1889 on the southeast corner of Sprague Street and Fourth Avenue.  This building was a white wooden structure complete with traditional steeple.  The cost of the church building was $3,000.  On May 11, 1944, a disasterous fire destroyed the old church which was soon replaced by a large stone and brick structure.Postcard titled: &quot;No. 18 First Baptist Church, Ellensburg, Washington.&quot;]]></summary>

    <summary><![CDATA[The cornerstone of the first Methodist Episcopal Church was laid in 1891 and the church building and parsonage was completed in 1893.  This large and inspiring building replaced a small one room church which was destroyed by the July 4, 1889 fire.  A grant of $1,500 was secured from the Methodist Extension for building the new church on the corner of N. Ruby Street and Third Avenue.  A beautifully toned bell, costing $1,200 brought by horse and wagon from The Dalles, Oregon, was placed in the tall steeple.  The parsonage on right in photo at 303 E. Third was built during the ministry of Pastor Nathan Evans.Postcard titled: &quot;First M. E. Church, Ellensburg, Wash.&quot;]]></summary>

In 1898, the Academy was moved to the corner of N. Sprague Street and Fifth Avenue and a large sanctuary was added.  The new church was dedicated on September 24, 1899.  Rev. Laurie was given a bell by his classmates from Williams College.  The bell was cast by the Clinton M. Manealy Bell Co. of New York.  The building served as the Ellensburg Presbyterian Church until 1958.Postcard titled: &quot;First Presyterian Church, Ellensburg, Wash.&quot;  Postmarked December 1, 1909 and addressed to Mrs. C. S.     <summary><![CDATA[Before Interstate Highway 90 was constructed and opened in the late 1960s, Cle Elum&amp;apos;s  First Street was also Highway 10.  The street within the city limits offered many hotels and restaurants to travelers and visitors.   Looking west on First Street from the intersection of Pennsylvania Avenue,  the Cle Elum State Bank can be seen on the right. .  It was opened and created in 1904 and the brick building was constructed in 1906.  The Autorest Café  on the north side of the street managed by Charles E. Hugg offered restaurant services, ice cream, confectionery, tobacco and fountain drinks.Postcard titled,  &quot;Street Scene  -  Cle Elum, Wash.&quot;   (Ellis #7003)]]></summary>

In the center of the photograph is the well known Davidson Building where the Albany Hotel was located.  Across Pearl Street from this building was the Cadwell-Olympic Building home of the Elwood Drug Store.
