Gold and Copper Mining

The Home Mining Co., a stock company, is owned by W.T. Burcham, Judge Stafford, Wm. Branan, and Thomas Johnson. Their claims are in the Mount Stuart District. Several moneyed men of Illinois are interested in developing the claims. No names given.

Rod and Gun Clubs of Eastern Washington point out that numerous irrigation ditches are not provided with screens and thousands of young fish are being destroyed. Dams are being constructed on Yakima without fish ladders.

Urban - Church

Methodist Episcopal Church to be completed next month. Located on the corner of 2nd and Oakes Streets on land donated by Walter J. Reed. Church organized December 22, 1901 by Rev. John Hanks, then pastor at Ellensburg. Building will cost $1,200. An ink drawing of the structure is in the paper. Rev. M.S. Anderson took over in 1902. Anderson built the first church in Spokane in 1882.

C.G. Thomas brought in a sample of timothy grown on Bill Lewis's ranch 2 miles south of Cle Elum that measures 6 feet 6 inches. An average stand is 3 feet.

Cle Elum boasts of two ball teams, with the "Blues." A list follows - J.H. Pallies (Manager), Bert Hudson (Capt. and Pitcher), Dock Bridgem (Catcher), Earl Kerstetter (Short Stop), Bert Kerstetter (First Base), Will Oldham (Second Base), Jim Thomas (Third Base), Mike Hannen (Left Field), Chester Vaughn (Center Field), and Charley Kelso (Right Field).

Friday evening the Cle Elum Gun Club was organized by 22 people. W.B. Sides was elected president and J.A. Balmer as secretary/treasurer. Grounds adjacent to the Mountain Rosary have been selected as a site.

Modern Woodmen of America will entertain on the 25th of July. On May 30, 1903 Modern Woodmen met in Ellensburg. M.C. Miller and William Crone attended and M.C. Miller won a log rolling contest. July meeting in Cle Elum is the first ever.

Recreation - Foot Race

The 100 yard foot race between Tom Booth of Roslyn and J.W. Walker of Cle Elum last Saturday (or possibly Sunday) afternoon drew a large crowd from both towns. Considerable interest was taken and several hundred dollars changed hands.
