Description

Standing in the middle of the intersection of First Street and Pennsylvania Avenue, a young man looks as if he were focusing a camera. Taken in the early morning, this photograph shows several of the men of Roslyn standing, sitting and visiting as a few vintage automobiles line the street. The well known Brick Saloon on the left was built in 1898 by Peter Giovanini. 45,000 Roslyn made bricks were required for the construction of the saloon. It is claimed that The Brick Saloon is the oldest operation saloon in Washington State.Postcard titled, "Pennsylvania Avenue, Roslyn, Wash." Handwritten note in ink from Anna addressed to Mrs. B. Ryleberg, Red Lodge, Montana and dated October 30, Roslyn, Wash. The note is written in Norwegian.
