Description
The cornerstone of the first Methodist Episcopal Church was laid in 1891 and the church building and parsonage was completed in 1893. This large and inspiring building replaced a small one room church which was destroyed by the July 4, 1889 fire. A grant of $1,500 was secured from the Methodist Extension for building the new church on the corner of N. Ruby Street and Third Avenue. A beautifully toned bell, costing $1,200 brought by horse and wagon from The Dalles, Oregon, was placed in the tall steeple. The parsonage on right in photo at 303 E. Third was built during the ministry of Pastor Nathan Evans.Postcard titled: "First M. E. Church, Ellensburg, Wash."
