Subject
Breviaries -- France -- Illustrations; Illumination of books and manuscripts, Medieval -- France; Illumination of books and manuscripts, French
Description
Breviaries combined all the sung and spoken portions of the Divine Office into one volume. This leaf bears three markers of French origin: first, the dorsal motif in the bar ornament; second, the Angular Gothic script hand; and third, the lemon tone of the gold illumination. The overall effect is a bright, joyous page full of movement. Text shown is a reading for a Sunday within the Octave of Epiphany.
